Committed to Glass Innovation

Throughout its history, Vitro Architectural Glass has been committed to setting and exceeding glass industry standards for solar control, color neutrality and thermal performance. Since launching Solex® glass, introduced in 1934 as the first environmental, heat-absorbing glass, Vitro Glass has consistently built on advancements in glass technology to provide new low-emissivity (low-e) glass products. As part of our trusted Solarban® brand of solar control low-e glasses, we introduced Solarban® 70 glass, the world’s first triple-silver low-e coating, and Solarban® 90 glass, the world’s first quad-silver-coated glass.

In recent years, Vitro has launched VacuMax™ Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG), which offers unparalleled insulation performance and enhances the performance of any glass configuration, and Solarvolt™ building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) glass modules, which combine aesthetics, CO2-free power generation and protection from the elements for commercial buildings.

Since its inception, Vitro Architectural Glass has registered more than 500 patents and has pioneered methods of reducing overall energy consumption in glass production to improve embodied carbon, including oxy-fuel technology. In the coming years, architects, glass fabricators and glazing contractors—especially those involved in sustainable building and design—can expect a continuing stream of new glass products and solutions.

A Culture of Sustainability

At Vitro Architectural Glass, it is our mission to continually raise the industry standard for sustainability. Vitro was the first U.S. glass manufacturer to have its entire collection of architectural glass products recognized by the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Products Program and the first North American manufacturer to publish third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for flat glass and processed glass products.

Our commitment to sustainability transcends certification programs into responsible manufacturing processes and large-scale energy reduction through the use of our energy-efficient, low-e glass products. Vitro Architectural Glass products are commonly specified to meet LEED® and other increasingly stringent green building criteria. Solarban® solar control low-e glasses, Starphire Ultra-Clear® glass and other Vitro glasses have been installed on hundreds of LEED-certified buildings and three of the world’s 11 certified net-zero-energy, “living” buildings.
